Everyday Life & Sharing the Gospel

Campers at a picnic table

Are you ever daunted by the thought of sharing the gospel with those around you? We often fear rejection, pushing someone away, being ill-equipped, and/or not having all the answers. Yet this is our privilege! Randi Beth shows us how we can share the gospel with our whole lives!

Scripture

“So we cared for you. Because we loved you so much, we were delighted to share with you not only the gospel of God but our lives as well.”

1 Thessalonians 2:8

Reflect

There are people around us – strangers, friends and family – who live every day apart from the knowledge of who God is and His great love for us. God longs for us to love those around us so they might enter into relationship with Him.

It is our greatest privilege to tell our Savior’s story to those around us. In fact, Peter says in 1 Peter 2:9,  “But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people for His own possession, that you may proclaim the excellences of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.”

Note Paul’s words to the Thessalonians above. What does it look like to share the Gospel and our lives as well?

  1. Model the Gospel. As Christ followers, we should look like Jesus. What does that mean? We can look here: Matthew 5:14-16 –Jesus calls us a city on a hill and in John 15:1-8 – We glorify the Father by abiding in Jesus.
  2. Seed the Gospel. The imagery of harvesters is used over and over again throughout scriptures when describing the work we, as Christ followers, do to introduce others to Christ and His Gospel message. We don’t always see the fruits of our labor (pun intended). But as harvesters, when we glorify God in our conversations, we plant seeds of the Gospel in those who hear. Every conversation is an opportunity to point others to Christ.
  3. Speak the Gospel. Many of us stop at a common thought…“If I live my life reflecting Christ, my friends will notice a difference in me and ask me what it is.” We essentially use this thought as a crutch, and escape the call to actually speak the gospel. How often does it really happen that someone asks you why you’re different? Furthermore, what if you slip up? Are you able to reflect Christ all the time? What about your actions sets you apart from a Mormon or Jehovah’s Witness who is often marked by their moral behavior? So yes, model the gospel. Yes, seed the gospel. But also SPEAK the gospel. For a practical way to speak the gospel, check out this Family Matters article.

I’ll close with this: “The harvest is plentiful, but the workers are few. Ask the Lord of the harvest, therefore, to send out workers into his harvest field (Luke 10:2).”  Pray for opportunities to be a harvester. After all, it is our greatest privilege.

Camper Corner

Campers, what are some practical ways you can follow each of the three actions above: modeling the Gospel, seeding the Gospel, and speaking the Gospel? Pray now for God to give you eyes to see those who need to know Him and boldness to share the Gospel with them.

Let's get to work!

I didn't know the value of good o manual labor until that first Training Camp at T Bar M in 1993, but it did set foundations that I continue to use today. The outcome of two hours of painting fences and moving rocks was quite more than two checks on the "to do" list. It […]
