our statement of faith

what we believe

While we’re not affiliated with any one church or denomination, our staff does hold to a common statement of faith. Individuals from all types of faith backgrounds are welcome. In our camps and retreats, campers and families will hear the good news of Jesus Christ presented thoughtfully and lovingly each week. For those enjoying our property for a business meeting or conference, we desire to serve you following the example set by Jesus.

  • All scripture is God breathed. The words of the sixty-six books of the Bible were written by men of God and moved by the Holy Spirit. The whole Bible is without error in the original manuscripts and therefore authoritative in all matters of faith and practice. (2 Timothy 3:16, 2 Peter 1:20-21)

  • God exists eternally in three persons, the Father, the Son and the Holy Spirit, and these three are the one God. (Matthew 28:19, Deuteronomy 6:4)

  • Man was originally created by God in His own image. Through sin, man fell and lost his spiritual life, becoming dead in his sin and subject to the power of Satan. Thus man is in need of salvation. (Genesis 1:27, 3:1-24, Ephesians 2:1-2)

  • In response to man’s need, God the Father sent Jesus into this world to make atonement for sin. His substitutionary death on the cross and His bodily resurrection from the dead provide the basis for salvation. His atonement is sufficient for all, yet effective only for those who believe. (John 3:16-17, 1 Timothy 2:3-6, Mark 10:45)

  • Salvation for man comes only by grace through faith in Jesus and His provision on the cross. Since salvation is a gift from God, a believer is secure forever. (Ephesians 2:8-10, Romans 11:29)

  • The Holy Spirit indwells every believer at the time of conversion. His baptism unites all believers to Christ in one body. He is the believers’ source for all acceptable worship and service. (1 Corinthians 12:13, Ephesians 4:7-16, 5:19-20)

  • It is God’s will for believers to live a holy life in cooperation with the indwelling of the Holy Spirit while putting to death the deeds of the flesh. God, the Father, does discipline His children. (1 Thessalonians 4:3, Romans 8:13, Hebrews 12:4-11)

  • The primary purpose in the life of the believer is to glorify God in everything and to make Christ known to the unbelieving world. (Colossians 3:23-24, 2 Corinthians 5:18-20, 1 Thessalonians 4:13-18)

  • That God wonderfully and immutably creates each person as male or female, and that these two distinct, complementary genders together reflect the image and nature of God. (Genesis. 1:26-27)

  • That God created marriage to be exclusively the union of one man and one woman, and that intimate sexual activity is to occur exclusively within that union. (Genesis 2:18-25, 1 Cor. 6:18; 7:2-5; Hebrews 13:4)

  • That all human life is sacred and created by God in His image. Human life is of inestimable worth in all its dimensions, including pre-born babies, the aged, the physically or mentally challenged, and every other stage or condition from conception through natural death. We are therefore called to defend, protect, and value all human life. (Psalm 139)

This belief statement of faith does not exhaust the extent of our beliefs. The Bible itself, as the inspired and infallible Word of God that speaks with final authority concerning truth, morality, and the proper conduct of mankind, is the sole and final source of all that we believe. For purposes of Center for Christian Growth’s faith, doctrine, practice, policy, and discipline, our Board of Trustees is Center for Christian Growth’s final interpretive authority on the Bible’s meaning and application.

Values we'll take to the mat

our core values

It’s all about His Kingdom (not ours), it’s by His power (not ours), and it’s for His glory (not ours).

And do not lead us into temptation, but deliver us from the evil one. For Yours is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever. Amen.
Matthew 6:13

Each of us personally growing in wisdom, physical fitness, relationally, and spiritually.

And Jesus grew in wisdom and stature, and in favor with God and man.
Luke 2:52

God’s truth, practiced in relationships and conduct.

All Scripture is inspired by God and profitable for teaching, for reproof, for correction, and for training in righteousness.
2 Timothy 3:16

Christ-centered adventure.

And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through Him.
Colossians 3:17

Servant leadership.

… Do nothing out of selfish ambition or vain conceit. Rather, in humility value others above yourselves …
Philippians 2:1-11

Excel still more.

Finally then, brethren, we request and exhort you in the Lord Jesus, that as you received from us instruction as to how you ought to walk and please God (just as you actually do walk), that you excel still more.
1 Thessalonians 4:1

Have fun along the journey.

The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came that you may have life, and have it abundantly.
John 10:10

lake safety

As always, our camper’s safety comes first.

FAQs: ANSWERS to the most frequently asked questions about lake safety.

  • Water Levels:  We monitor water levels daily on Lake Travis and adjust lake activities when necessary.
  • Life Vests:  All campers are required to wear a US Coast Guard Approved Life Vest when participating in any lake front activity. Camper’s put on their vests on Kenny’s Deck which is located 50 feet from the lake. Once past this point they are required to keep their vest zipped and buckled.
  • Lifeguards:  All dock staff are Red Cross Certified Lifeguards which includes CPR and First Aid training.
  • Boat Drivers:  All boat drivers have a Texas Boater’s License as well as going through our own boat driver certification course during staff training.

If you have any questions, please call our office at 830.620.4263 and talk to a registrar.

Please also note that our cabins are situated 80+ feet above Lake Travis which creates natural safety boundaries in times of heavy rain.

Packing for camp

What to pack for Camp Travis

This is a suggested list … you are the final authority!
  • Shorts: 6 – 10
  • T-shirts: 6 – 10 (tank tops must appropriately cover undergarments)
  • Undergarments: 6 – 10
  • Socks: 6
  • Pajamas: 2
  • Swimsuits: 2 (one-piece suits only for gals with shorts)
  • Tennis shoes: 1 – 2  (must have closed-toe footwear to participant in High Ropes)
  • Pool footwear or flip-flops: 1
  • Lake shoes: 1
  • Theme night costumes (optional)
  • Toiletries*
  • Laundry bag (with camper’s name in BIG letters)
  • Rain jacket (check the weather forecast)
  • Bedding: sheets for a twin size bed and sleeping bag or blanket
  • Pillow
  • Towels & wash cloths: 3 – 4
  • Sunscreen
  • Flashlight
  • Bible
  • Pencils / pens
  • Insect repellent
  • Self-addressed stamped envelopes (if you want your camper to write you!)
  • Small personal fan (w/ 6′ extension chord if a plugin)
  • Water bottle**

* A helpful suggestion for Toiletries: Showers are quick at Camp Travis (we are in the country with septic tanks if you get our drift), so it is helpful to pack a 3 in 1 shampoo/conditioner/soap. This will help maximize the 2-minute shower!

** A note about water bottles: If you’ve come in the past, we’ve changed our “Camper Gift” to something we think you’ll love even more and will no longer be providing themed water bottles to campers at Camp Travis. We will have small plastic water bottles on hand for those who forget theirs and as always, have nice water bottles for sale in the Trading Post.

Trunk, Suitcase or Duffel Bag?

All three options are good! If you pack in a trunk or hard-sided suitcase, make sure it is no taller than 16″ so it can fit under bunk.

Helpful Hint: One tried and true way to help your camper out with their clothes is to pack each day’s outfit in an individual zipper bag! Also, your empty laundry bag makes a great space to pack your bedding and pillow and frees up space to pack everything else in your trunk/suitcase/duffel bag.

Medication Requirements
All medications of any kind must follow our medication policy. Any medication brought to camp that does not follow our guidelines will not be accepted. You are accountable to know and follow these guidelines. Click Here to Read our Medication Policy

Do not bring common meds like Aspirin and Tylenol – we have some we’ll share.

Label Everything
It is much easier to locate the owner with everything either labeled or tagged with your camper’s name. Doing this would be greatly appreciated.

Things To Leave At Home
Cellphone, PSP, ipods/ipads, jewelry, makeup (outside of theme nights), magazines/non-Christian books, candy, gum, alcohol, and tobacco. No expensive cameras!
(Parents, this includes any care packages you might send to your camper during camp).

Do not bring cash to camp – you can put money in store account for store purchases.

Please Note: Any of the above items found at check in or during camp will be taken up and all non-food items will be returned at departure time.

Lost And Found

Lost and Found items are held for two weeks. Check your camper’s bag before leaving camp.
We won’t be able to send back towels, undergarments and items valued under $10. Please call the camp office if you left something behind. Remember to take home your camper’s laundry bag, this is the #1 item left at camp!

For our oldest campers:

SEC … Seniors Exemplifying Christ. Our camp directors are excited about personal connection times with these oldest campers to build relationships, discuss worldview, and introduce special opportunities for them to come back in the coming years to serve, lead and work at T Bar M on staff. Additionally, these Seniors have a special trip off-property, an experience all campers look forward to.

Testimonials

see what everyone has to say

Did you know 86% of our campers come because someone they know recommended T Bar M.

So don’t take our word for it. See what moms, dads and campers have to say about their experience with T Bar M.

  • T Bar M ... wow, I’m just tearing up thinking about it because my daughter Mikayla, she was so miserable at school and then she went to T Bar M overnight camp. They poured into her life and just said “you gonna get through it. You gonna look back on it later and say this made you stronger.” Everything they did focused back on the Bible. Myself, as a parent, can tell our kids that, but when someone else as a 20-something-year-old says “I walk this same struggle as you” and is pouring that into your child and comes back and says “I can make it!” Oh what a blessing that is.

    Mavis Cantu

    San Antonio, Texas

  • For any parent that is contemplating camp, I will say this, there are a million things that are after our money and time for our children, we look at camp as an eternal investment. Not only are they going to have a great time, they are going to come away changed, mature and experience some independence in a really safe way. You will find a community of people here that will come alongside you as parents and partner with you in pointing your kids to Jesus.

    Lesley Ryden

    Midland, Texas

  • Christ centered adventure at camp is preparing my kids for that Christ centered adventure in life. There is no better teaching than living life 24/7 in a camp setting with young college kids encouraging them every step of the way. My kids experience the good and the hard. That's why they grow at camp.

    Kevin Myer

    Frisco, Texas

  • I started coming to T Bar M because one of my best friends in elementary school was like, “come to camp, it’s awesome!” So I did. Camp has been the best part of my summers. I have never seen more of Jesus in one place, ever. In the trees and in the sky and in the people that I meet. I definitely see God especially at Main Thing where every night we sing praise songs and glorify God. Everyone is singing in unison and it's the most beautiful thing. I can't wait to go back again and again.

    Maren -Camp Travis camper

    Houston, Texas

  • If I could tell someone to do camp, I would say do it because you will have the best time of your life! It will become your second home like it has mine.
