Is God Real?

?>

How do we know, I mean really know, God is real? Ever have that question come at you from a child? It can be a doozy! Chief lays out the simple truth of it all. Check it out.

“You are my witnesses,” declares the LORD, “that I am God.” – Isa 43:12b

Have you ever seen a quark, lepton, gravitron (not the carnival ride) or a neutrino? I heard about them in some of my chemistry and physics classes. These (along with many others) are the particles that make up subatomic particles (electrons, protons, neutrons) that make up atoms.

If you do a quick search on the internet you can join other brilliant scientists that have seen microscopic videos and images of an atom. I even found one video of an individual electron. It looked more like an 8 bit rendition of “Pong”, but whatever.

No visual evidence exists for the aforementioned. Even though we haven’t seen these things we pretty readily accept their existence as do scientists. We do because there are other evidences besides sight causing us to believe in something’s existence. So let’s not worry about the fact that we can’t see God.

So what does point to the existence of an all-knowing, all-powerful, supreme God? Let’s just take 3 things giving us a reasonable faith:

  1. The Bible – The Bible is a collection of 66 books written by about 40 authors, in three different languages, on three different continents, over approximately 1600 years and it has one unified theme and theology. No book has been more scrutinized or dissected and yet it has stood the test. With more than 20,000 copies of the original documents in existence today, we have more reason to trust the authenticity of Scripture than any other writing from antiquity. And one message it delivers loud and clear is GOD IS REAL!
  2. Testimonies of Believers – Most of what we believe is based on the testimony of someone else. A history book is written by a historian who gathers facts and information from other witnesses who wrote about events or people long ago. I never met Abraham Lincoln, but I know a lot about him. And all of that is based on someone else’s testimony. Not only does the Bible contain hundreds of testimonies about people’s encounters and relationships with God, but we are surrounded by people who can speak of how a very real God has revealed Himself to them.
  3. Creation – “For since the creation of the world God’s invisible qualities—his eternal power and divine nature—have been clearly seen, being understood from what has been made, so that people are without excuse.” (Rom 1:20) Science offers an anti-God theory to how the world came into being. But when I see the Rocky Mountains, a Great White Shark or the faces of my children, I believe wisdom and majesty created them, not chaos and chance.

At the end of the day it comes down to faith. Either you take evidence and faith and say, “I do not believe in a God I can’t see” or you take evidence and faith and say, “My Father, who art in heaven, hallowed by Your Name.”
