2021 family camp speakers

We have these trusted speakers leading our adults.

Session 1: Steve and Cindy Graves (Speaker) & Joey Witham (Worship)

Steve is currently serving as the senior pastor of First Baptist DeRidder, LA. Prior to that, he pastored churches in Texas and Louisiana. Cindy and Steve invested in Baylor students in a variety of ways after graduating from Baylor and Truett. These days, they invest in their kids’ lives through coaching their sports teams and other activities, and they homeschool. They are advocates for foster ministry in their church and community.

We love Family Camp! For our family, it has been a great balance of fun family time together, great time for our kids to be poured into by college students, and time away for us to hear great teaching and reassess where we are as a family. Not only do we see the incredible value as parents, but our kids would choose family camp over a family Disney vacation or something like it every summer. We are already looking forward to our week at T Bar M this summer.

Joey Witham- Gatherings Pastor – Church Project The Woodlands, TX

Session 2: Robert Parrish(Speaker) & Will Stevens (Worship)

Robert “Chief” Parrish serves as Senior Director of Camps here at TBarM. He and Kristen have been married for 16 years on Friday the week of FC2.0!(June 11) God has blessed them with four kiddos: Hallie, Macey Jo, Benjamin and Samuel and one way too hyper dog named Willa. Originally from Arkansas, Chief and Kristen have called New Braunfels home for 14 years.

The Parrishes are a fun bunch! They love their weekly family movie/pizza night, but what they really love is…camp. Camp has a long and rich history in their family. It is where Kristen and Chief started dating 18 years ago, where their oldest put her faith in Christ and where we have countless memories of fun, laughter, tears and growth. To be able do Family Camp is the perfect way for us to experience what we love so much together.

Will Stevens- Worship Leader- Oakwood Baptist Church, New Braunfels, TX

Session 3.0: Ken Hicks (Speaker) & Will Stevens (Worship)

Ken & Rita celebrated God’s blending of their family together for the 25th time in November, 2020. Ken & Rita have 3 daughters (Alex, Sammi & Sarah) and sweet Amelia Rose, who is their 6 year old granddaughter.

They have shared together as God’s under-shepherd in churches every step of the journey, and currently celebrate Jesus at Heights Community Church.

Ken is also the Founder & CEO of 360 Enrichment Group, which proactively partners with companies to build healthy marriages through the workplace, and currently is a partner in a Home Remodeling & Construction company as well.

Will Stevens- Worship Leader- Oakwood Baptist Church, New Braunfels, TX

Session 3.5: Dudley Callison (Speaker) & Magen Thurman (Worship)

Dudley and his wife, Laura, have two lovely “young adult” daughters, Molly and Claire, with the prospect of the “empty nest” coming up very soon. They both serve at T Bar M Camps & Retreats – Dudley as the President and Laura as the HR Coordinator. Dudley has served in five nonprofit ministries in his career, in addition to serving in two local churches. He is an Ordained Minister, and maintained credentials as a Licensed Professional Counselor, and a Credentialed Christian Nonprofit Leader by the Christian Leadership Alliance.  In addition to serving as the Managing Trustee with T Bar M, he also serves on two nonprofit mission agency boards.  He earned both Bachelors and Masters degrees from Baylor University.  Dudley consults with nonprofits around cultural health, change management, founder transitions, and alignment of mission, vision, programs and operations.  Together, Dudley and Laura enjoy hiking (mostly in the mountains of their “home” in Colorado), travel to experience new places, and cooking together.

Dudley and Laura love Family Camp!  Simply seeing couples enjoying focused time together, knowing their kids are growing in faith and having fun while they talk… lingering over meals to make new friends… watching parents take deep breaths… hearing the squeals of lifetime memories being made together.  Family Camp is the “whole family” experience that we all long to enjoy.

Magen Thurman – Worship Leader – Magen Thurman Dallas, TX

Session 4: Chad Warren (Speaker) & Jon Abel (Worship)

Chad and his wife, Shanon, have three kiddos, Truett (11), Jayne (10), and Titus (8). They live in Georgetown, TX where he serves on the pastoral team at First Baptist Church of Georgetown. He leads the FBG church family in living on mission, helping them to leverage where the Lord has placed them for the spread of His name, from neighbors to the nations. He studied philosophy at Oregon State University (Go Beavs!) and graduated from Knox Theological Seminary.

What Chad values about Family Camp.

What I value about camp, is the environment for people to step out of the normal rhythms of life and draw near to the Lord. Summer camps, especially T Bar M, creates a space for both fun and reflection centered on Christ. Family camp is especially unique. It creates opportunities for families to draw closer together and reflect on what the Lord is doing in their midst, and gives parents the tools to continue this focus when they get home.

Jon Abel- Worship Director – Watermark Community Church Dallas, TX

Session 5: JR Vassar (Speaker) & Joseph Tenney (Worship)

JR Vassar serves as the Lead Pastor of Church at the Cross in Grapevine, TX. He is a graduate of Dallas Baptist University and holds a Th.M. from Dallas Seminary, and is the author of Glory Hunger: God, the Gospel and our Quest for Something More (Crossway, 2015).

JR also served as the founding and lead pastor of Apostles Church in New York City. He and his wife, Ginger, live with their four children and two dogs in Grapevine, TX. JR and his family enjoy camping, hiking and board games.

Joseph Tenney- Pastor and Music & Arts – Church at the Cross Grapevine, TX

Session 11: Adam Tarnow (Speaker) & Tye Barrett (Worship)

After graduating from Clemson University with an accounting degree, he spent ten years as a CPA working with Price Waterhouse Coopers, The Neiman Marcus Group and finally BKD CPAs & Advisors.

The next ten years of his career were spent working at Watermark Community Church. While on staff, he had stints leading in the marriage ministry, college ministry, and ended his time at Watermark as the Directors of Arts.

After 10 years on staff at Watermark and in the midst of a global pandemic, Adam thought it would be a good time to start his own consulting business. In June 2020 he launched Tarnow & Company, a communication consulting firm. He works closely with churches and businesses helping them solve their internal or external communication related issues.

Adam has been married since December 2003 and has two boys. Free time in the Tarnow house typically involves playing, watching, or talking about some type of sport (especially baseball & basketball). Family Camp 2021 will be Adam’s fourth summer speaking at camp!

Tye Barrett- Worship Leader- Oakwood Baptist Church, New Braunfels, TX

family camp highlights

what you need to bring

What to leave at home:

  • Food, candy and gum. These items will be thrown away.
  • Expensive items like cameras, phones, smart watches, etc. We will take these items from the campers, but we can not be held responsible should anything happen to them.
  • Makeup. PLEASE DO NOT BRING! Natural beauty is celebrated at camp!
  • Any type of weapons. We take this serious and will call parents upon finding anything questionable.

WATER BOTTLE NOTE: Please make sure you camper packs their own water bottle. T Bar M will not be supplying water bottles to campers.

see what everyone has to say

Did you know 86% of our campers come because someone they know recommended T Bar M.

So don’t take our word for it. See what moms and dads have to say about their experience with T Bar M.

  • When I think of T Bar M, I think of family and unity. The things that T Bar M provides, they bond our family. I tell my husband that all the activities and all that stuff is amazing … but the icing on top is the firm foundation of all of us together digging in God’s word. All that we learn and practice at Family Camp goes home with us. That’s what we value and that’s why I will continue to send them to camp.

    Gaby Bradford

    New Braunfels, Texas

  • My kids can’t stop talking about camp. The blob. The coaches. The river. Mister Universe. The dang stuffed animals they got at the camp store. Ha ha. And Chris and I can’t stop talking about camp either. The conversations we had. What a ball we had as a family. How much we love that place and the people!

    Rachel Shelton

    Dallas, TX

  • It sounds crazy to say we bonded as a family. I mean being that I’ve shared a bed with my husband for 12 years and carried the 2 children in my body for 9 months. But it is true. And we came home more aware of what kindness and serving looks like. And most importantly, with a burden lifted that nothing we can measure on earth matters. For kids about to start school with 2 parents with jobs that are heavily influenced by what happens this November, it was a good reminder to set our priorities straight.
